Hidria Segundo Ship
ASSETS OF THE TRASLATIO FOUNDATION

The museum ship Hidria Segundo, a historic steam-powered museum vessel, came into our hands after reaching an agreement with its previous owners. The Hidria Segundo is a steamship built at the Vigo shipyard José Roberto e Hijos between 1963 and 1966.
Until the early 1990s, it belonged to the company Aljibes de Vigo S.L. and supplied water from the “A Canteira de Meira” spring to merchant ships, ocean liners, and fishing vessels from the port of Vigo. It was capable of carrying up to 240 tons.
The steam machinery was inherited from its predecessor, the Hidria, which began working for the same company in 1922 and sank in the port of Vigo in 1959. Its steam engine was preserved and later installed in the Hidria Segundo.
The company went bankrupt in 1994 and left its last two vessels, the Roberto and the Hidria Segundo, abandoned in the port of Vigo. In 1997, the latter sank in the port and was taken to the Punta Lagoa scrapyard.
The Hidria Segundo is being restored so that it can once again become a passenger vessel.
